These are, as the original recipe card says, “Aunt Roses Butter Cookies”. Aunt Rose being my Mom’s aunt, my great aunt (my grandma’s sister). She lived next to a German woman who gave her this recipe, the same women who shared the recipe for German Thanksgiving stuffing with us so this woman could cook. This is a Christmas cookie my Mom made growing up as a kid that I loved. Its a thin butter cooking with cinnamon sugar and Wondra flour topped with chopped pecans and baked until it's hard and crunchy. The result tastes something like a mix between baklava and Cinnamon Toast Crunch. They are delicious but there are a little tricky to pull off, mainly because the recipe she left behind was very vague. But I’ve learned some tricks to pull it off. Learn how it's done and kick off the holiday season with some delicious cookies.

Those cookies are awesome! Anytime I've got extra cinnamon lying around that I'm not using for cooking or baking, I like to bust it out for a little cinnamon ritual (blowing cinnamon or adding it to my coffee.) Makes me feel all cozy inside :-)
